I get that drawing the extra cards from spells like Brainstorm can easily be preferred, but do not underestimate the advantage looking at your top 5 can give you

Mixing colors hurts a decks consistency, as players must draw the right lands to cast the color of spells in their hand

It adds extra excitement in the late game, it provides a constant (but simple) decision tree when sequencing your spells throughout the game, and it lets early game creatures become relevant threats while still staying small
