but at that point I was into the foreground and was able to tie my work into the previous layer even though it was starting to tense up a bit in consistency

far away from any human contact there exists a serene-like feeling that one can only experience by hiking miles off the beaten path

More recently I've been spending time in the forests again and it's inspired me to revisit this idea

being from and growing up in Minnesota

The refuge there rears thousands of waterfowl each year and is a major stop over and wintering grounds for many of the Northern birds migrating downward each fall. I captured the background in a similar photo and knew I had to depict this scene with a couple blue winged teal coming in to land. Specifics: 10x7" on board.
